Loot Check ("we", "us", or "the app") helps you identify an item from a photo and estimate its resale value. This policy explains what information the app handles and how. We've kept it short because the app collects very little.

Information we handle

• Photos you submit. When you scan an item, the photo(s) you take or select are sent to our server and then to our AI provider, Anthropic, to identify the item and generate a listing. We do not store your photos on our servers — they are used to produce your result and then discarded.
• A device identifier. The app generates an app-installation identifier and sends it with each scan. We use it only to enforce daily scan and price-check limits per device. It is not your name, email, or Apple ID, and it is not used to track you across other apps or websites.
• Item details for pricing. For some items, a short text description of the identified item (never your photo) is sent to Anthropic, which runs a web search for comparable prices to check the estimate.
• Anonymous scan statistics. For each scan we keep a small anonymous record so we can see how well the app is working: the date of the scan (not the time), how long it took, whether it succeeded, the item's general category (for example "clothing"), its condition and estimated price range, whether it looked handmade, how confident the estimate was, whether a price lookup ran, how many photos were used, whether a hint was added, whether the scan was a fresh one or a retry, and how many scans had been made that day. These records do not contain your photos, your hint text, the item's title, brand, or description, your device identifier, or anything else that identifies you or your device, and they cannot be linked back to you. We also keep an aggregate count of total scans across all users.
• Server logs. Like most online services, our server keeps short-lived technical logs for troubleshooting. When a price lookup runs, these can include a brief summary of what the search found for the item. They do not include your photos, your hint text, or your device identifier, and our hosting provider deletes them automatically after a short period.

How we use this information

Solely to provide the app's features: identifying your item, writing a listing, estimating a resale price, recommending where to sell, and enforcing fair-use scan limits — and, through the anonymous scan statistics, to understand how the app is used and improve its speed and accuracy. We do not use it for advertising or profiling.

Third-party services

We rely on these providers to operate the app:

• Anthropic — processes your photos and item descriptions to identify items, generate listings, and check prices (privacy policy).
• Vercel — hosts our backend server.
• Upstash — stores the per-device daily scan counters and the anonymous scan statistics.

When you tap "List on …" to post an item, the app opens that marketplace (e.g. eBay, Facebook Marketplace) in your browser. Anything you do there is governed by that marketplace's own privacy policy.

What we do not do

• No user accounts, names, emails, or passwords.
• No payments or financial information.
• No advertising, ad networks, or cross-app tracking.
• We do not sell or share your information.

Data retention

Photos are not retained after your result is generated. Per-device scan counters expire automatically (within about two days). The anonymous scan statistics and the total scan count contain nothing that identifies you and are retained indefinitely.

Children

Loot Check is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Security

All communication between the app and our server uses encrypted HTTPS connections.

Your choices

You can stop all data processing at any time by not scanning items, by revoking camera or photo permissions in iOS Settings, or by deleting the app.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the date at the top of this page.
